Potential topics for your thesis
We offer the opportunity to conduct a Bachelor's or Master's thesis focusing on the evaluation of modern provisioning strategies for current Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL10) on our High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, and, if applicable, to develop an independent solution.
The objectives of the thesis are:
To research and analyze the current state of (container-based) provisioning solutions.
To assess suitable approaches regarding their applicability for use in HPC environments.
To design and implement a prototype solution.
To take into account both diskless and diskful systems.
As part of this master’s thesis, a concept will be developed and prototypically implemented to automatically identify performance bottlenecks and anomalies in high-performance computing (HPC) systems. The work will be based on the open-source benchmarking tool xbat, which provides a wide range of relevant performance metrics.
Objectives:
Develop a system for the automated analysis of the extensive performance data collected by xbat.
Identify performance bottlenecks and provide optimization recommendations for HPC applications.
Visualize and present the analysis results in a user-friendly and accessible way, including for users without hardware expertise.
Consider complex interdependencies and correlations between various metrics (CPU, memory, network, power consumption, etc.).
